SYLMAR – California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) officials announced an incarcerated person who walked away on May 25, 2025, from Holton Conservation Camp in Los Angeles County was apprehended today.
At approximately 8:20 a.m., CDCR was notified that Upland Police Department officers took Angel A. Gaxiola, 33, into custody without incident.
On May 25 at approximately 9 p.m., staff discovered camp participant Gaxiola was missing from the camp during a head count. Staff immediately initiated an emergency count, confirming Gaxiola was not at the camp. Agents from CDCR’s Office of Correctional Safety were directed to locate and apprehend Gaxiola and notification was made to local law enforcement.
Gaxiola’s case will be referred to the Los Angeles County District Attorney for consideration of escape charges.
Gaxiola was most recently received from San Bernardino County on September 15, 2023. He was sentenced to six years for second-degree robbery as a second striker. He has been housed at Holton Conservation Camp since Jan. 22, 2025.
Since 1977, 99 percent of all people who have left an adult institution, camp, or in-state contract bed or Community Rehabilitative Program Placement have been apprehended.
