Runners compete at the Mart Spring Break track meet.

By David N. Krough, TJJD Communications —

The Recreation Department hosted a track meet at Mart State Juvenile Correctional Facility over their spring break.

Youth competed in shot put, discus, long jump and running events for the 100 and 200-meter dash and the 4×4 relay, Rec Supervisor Taresa White said.

Those who made the top three highest throws were recognized on the first day.

On day two, the running events took place and all who qualified moved on to the finals.

Winners from both the girls’ and boys’ dorms were able to compete against each other for the final bragging rights on the last day.

The on-the-job training class helped manage time, keep the water coolers filled and the security team stayed nearby to ensure additional support.

The recreation department thanked everyone for pitching in to help create a positive and memorable event.

White said the youth had so much fun that they are already asking when the next meet will be held.
