PESHAWAR: Life has become miserable for the little children and other family members of Asghar Ali, a tax advisor, who has been languishing in jail in Afghanistan since 2013.

Asghar Ali, 37, was arrested in Afghanistan on suspicion of being a spy of Pakistani intelligence agencies.

His father Akbar Ali, a resident of Shabqadar area, told The News that he visited Afghanistan and met authorities there. He said that in 2013, Asghar was jailed for two years.

“Since his jail term finished in 2015, I have been visiting Afghanistan but the Afghan authorities present different excuses and Asghar is not being released,” said Akbar Ali, a 55-year-old EPI Technician. “They say they will release my son soon, but this is a mere lip-service and Asghar is still incarcerated,” he added.

Akbar Ali said that Asghar has two sons and a daughter and he was serving as a tax advisor in Afghanistan.
