Multnomah County

Good morning, Portland! Expect a partially cloudy day that'll graze 80 degrees—the perfect weather for the second-to-last day of summer. Here's some news to start your day.

Today in Shootings: The woman who fatally shot three people—and then, herself—at a Rite Aide distribution center in Maryland was a "disgruntled employee." She had legally purchased the firearm used in the attack. It's the third shooting spree to take place in the US over the course of two days. I wonder what we could possibly do to make these happen less often?

It Gets Worse: A day care employee in Queens, NY stabbed her coworker with a kitchen knife, before using the knife on three babies and one baby's father. All victims are in stable condition after the early morning attack but THIS IS STILL HORRIFYING.

Human Turd: Donald Trump, a man who really understands the mindset of a woman who's been sexually harassed, says that if Brett Kavanaugh's assault on Christine Blasey Ford "was as bad as she says, charges would have been immediately filed with local law enforcement authorities." Yeah fucking right, thanks to stigma created by people INCLUDING DONALD TRUMP, woman rarely report abuse to law enforcement (or even their parents/peers) out of fear of being dismissed or distrusted.

Death of a President: Vietnam President Tran Dai Quang has died from an unknown illness. He leaves behind a legacy of silencing anyone who opposed the country's one-party leadership.

Beto Believe It: Tonight is the first debate between Rep. Beto O'Rourke and Sen. Ted "Zodiac Killer" Cruz and it's going to be lit. You don't need to be a Texan to care about this race—I'm pretty sure the entire US will be relieved to see Cruz slink back into the shadows and quietly ferment for the rest of his days.

Surprise, Surprise: The super-rich guy (Jordan Schnitzer) who purchased the Wapato Jail from Multnomah County in hopes of turning it into a homeless shelter with prison vibes, says he may just have to tear it down. Comissioner Loretta Smith, however, is somehow still pushing for its future as a homeless encampment.

Southern Oregon Shooting: A Jackson County deputy shot and killed a man in a Carl's Jr. bathroom in a rural town northeast of Medford. It's still unclear what compelled the officer to pull the trigger.

I leave you with:
