3 takeaways from Texas Tech's victory over Kennesaw State

Final box score

Texas Tech beat another inferior opponent, this time making quick work of Kennesaw State 82-53 at home. The win moves the No. 24 Red Raiders to 8-1 on the season. Here are three takeaways from the game.

Dominating defense

It's no surprise, but Texas Tech was dominant on the defensive end against an outmatched Kennesaw State team. The Owls shot 32.6 percent overall and 31.3 percent from 3-point range. Twenty of Kennesaw State's 53 points came from the free throw line -- the Owls only missed eight free throws for the game. The Red Raiders came up with 15 Kennesaw State turnovers and never let the Owls get in a rhythm.

Rebounding key

Perhaps the biggest mismatch in this game was on the boards. The Red Raiders out-rebounded the Owls 44-22, which was a major reason for the huge margin of victory. It was definitely a collective effort for Texas Tech, though. The Red Raiders were led by center Norense Odiase with eight rebounds, and no one else had more than that. The Owls are a 1-8 team and are also 0-7 on the road. Texas Tech was simply too athletic for them.

Balanced scoring

Scoring was also a balanced effort for the Red Raiders. Four Red Raiders finished in double figures, and Keenan Evans led the group with 16 points. The game's biggest play went to forward Zhaire Smith, who threw down a highlight reel dunk.
