Man jailed 14 years, three whippings, for sodomising neighbour's child

KAJANG: A former wireman was sentenced to 14 years jail and three strokes of the cane after he was found guilty of sodomising a nine-year-old boy.
Judge Datin Surita Budin handed down the sentence on Saiful Affendey Zairulliza, 31, after finding that the defence had failed to raise reasonable doubts against the prosecution's case.
"The court finds that the prosecution has succeeded in establishing the case beyond reasonable doubts, the accused is thus convicted of the charge and sentenced to 14 years jail and three whipping," she added.
She ordered Saiful Affendey, who is not married, to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest on Nov 24, 2016.
The decision was made after the court heard the testimony of 16 witnesses in a trial which began on March 23 last year.
Saiful Affendey was charged with committing the offence on the boy, who was then nine-years-old, at an apartment at Section 5, Bandar Baru Bangi here, between 4pm and 5pm on Nov 17, 2016.
The charge, under Section 377C of the Penal Code, provides an imprisonment for up to 30 years, and is liable to whipping, upon conviction.
The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Siti Noor Hafizan Zakaria, while lawyer Saiful Izham Ramli represented Saiful Affendey. — Bernama
