Genital mutilator-accused Peter Frederiksen has filed papers with the High Court to be transferred to Grootvlei Prison in the Free State, his lawyer said on Friday.

Luthando Tshangana told News24 that since Frederiksen was denied bail, he had been transferred from Grootvlei Prison to the Johannesburg Correctional Services without any reasons.

"It is not fair that he wasn’t given any opportunity or reasons why he was being transferred. He is too far from his business and his children," he said.

"He has a right to be seen and to consult, which is what he is not getting right now. It is also far to travel and he battles to sign his business transactions. The social worker also said she won’t be able to take his children to Gauteng to visit him because it was too far."

In his affidavit, Frederiksen said he was woken up at 03:00 and was told to pack all his belongings in five minutes.

He said when he asked why he was being moved, no one answered him. He said he was led by a convoy of heavy armed guards to Johannesburg.

Frederiksen added that when he got to the Johannesburg prison he was placed in a single cell, where he was given only two hours per day to shower, make phone calls and to exercise.

In November last year, the State told the court that Frederiksen had made phone calls while he was being detained, allegedly to threaten witnesses.

A witness and phone call records had allegedly linked his wheelchair-bound co-accused Motlatsi Moqeti, 31, to the killing of Frederiksen's 28-year-old wife Anna Matseliso Molise.

"I understand there is an issue with life-threatening stories, but at the end of the day the accused has a right to a phone call," Tshangana said.

Prosecutor Amanda Bester said they had transferred Frederiksen to Johannesburg for security reasons.

"Our lives are also in danger because he [Frederiksen] can make phone calls from prison," she said.

Frederiksen was alleged to have sliced off women's sexual organs and kept them as trophies.

Twenty-one packages with parts of women's clitorises were found in his freezer, as well as surgical equipment and photographs of female genitalia.

He faces charges of assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm, manufacturing child pornography, distribution of child pornography, possession of child pornography, and conspiracy to murder and bigamy.

He is being investigated for the murder of his wife, who was gunned down in Lesotho following his arrest.

She was expected to be a key State witness in the case against her husband.
