A youth pastor in Southeast Georgia is facing charges after allegations he had an inappropriate relationship with a child.
Benjamin Dalton Houser was taken into custody April 26 by the Candler County Sheriff's Office, charged with obscene internet contact with a minor.
Houser served as youth pastor at Cedar Street Baptist Church in Metter.
According to an incident report from police, the investigation began back on March 29 after two deacons at the church contacted authorities.
The church released the following statement to WJCL on Monday:
"Dalton Houser was approached about allegations of inappropriate and untimely conversations via text messaging with CSBC youth members. The lack of discernment with this behavior from someone in church leadership has led to Dalton resigning from his position as CSBC Youth Pastor effective on March 27, 2024. At that time, we contacted the Sheriff’s department and gave them the evidence we had."
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is handling the case.
The GBI released a statement Monday which stated Houser was sending texts to two minors under his supervision.
"The messages were consistent with grooming tactics," the statement read.
