After escaping from a traveling circus tent in Butte, Montana, a circus elephant started wandering the streets and obstructing traffic. Law enforcement and other authorities responded by closing the streets. Officials from Jordan World Circus stated that as the female elephant was being washed outside the municipal center, the animal became agitated due to a passing vehicle that had backfired, leading it to momentarily escape.
The frightened animal was quickly captured and returned to the civic center without any harm.
Tonight was the Jordan World Circus's visit to town, and the elephant had escaped. The handlers have secured the elephant's safety, as per NBC. According to witnesses, the elephant performed number two on a Butte lawn prior to its arrest.
The female elephant was being washed outside by her handlers when she became agitated by a vehicle that malfunctioned and fled, according to Butte Civic Center manager Bill Melvin, who spoke to KXLF. The event on Tuesday was the second time an elephant had escaped from a Jordan World Circus setting, according to the Performing Animal Welfare Society. The event resulted in no reported injuries.
The Jordan World Circus will come to Great Falls on Friday, April 19, and Saturday, April 20, 2024. The Pacific Steel & Recycling Arena at Montana ExpoPark will host all of the events. Friday's performances start at 4 p.m. and end at 7:30 p.m. Performances on Saturday at 11 a.m., 3 p.m., and 7 p.m.
A few of the attractions are the "Globe of Death" motorcycle stunt show, high-wire performances, clowns and juggling, elephants, camels, and bison.
