TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) -- Former Tulsa police officer Shannon Kepler is now in the custody of the Oklahoma Department of Corrections.

Kepler was transferred Monday from the Tulsa County Jail to the Lexington Assessment and Reception Center, an intake and long-term corrections facility . His permanent placement won't be made public for his safety.

Kepler was convicted of manslaughter Oct. 18 after standing trial four separate times for the 2014 shooting death of Jeremey Lake, his daughter's then-boyfriend. Three previous trials ended with hung juries.

Kepler is appealing his 15-year prison sentence.

The former officer was also convicted of two misdemeanors for reckless conduct with a firearm and was given a one-year sentence.
